The Classroom That Came to Him
When 12-year-old Ankush Verma was diagnosed with AML and admitted to the pediatric cancer ward, his school life came to a sudden halt. A bright child from Akbarpur, he had just started Class 5 when his treatment began, and everything familiar — including school — seemed to fade away.
But thanks to the Helping Hands Foundation’s Ward Education Program, Ankush found his way back to learning. Every morning, he joins other young patients in the hospital’s classroom, where a teacher conducts lessons for two hours tailored to each child’s level. Ankush now studies in Class 7, confidently solving math problems and practicing English — the subjects he enjoys most. On days when his energy is low and he can’t leave his bed, the teacher brings the classroom to him — ensuring that illness never becomes a full stop to his dreams.
The Family Beside Him
Standing beside him through every struggle are his parents Mr. Ravindra Kumar Verma and Mrs. Somati Verma whose quiet strength is amplified by Helping Hands’ continuous support during treatment and recovery.
“Bimari ne roka zaroor… par Helping Hands ne kabhi rukne nahi diya,” his mother shares with a smile.
Because at Helping Hands, we believe that even in a hospital, childhood and learning should never be paused.
